For the Love of Brunch: Mad Rex Philly

As much as I love to eat, it just would not be right if I

never shared some of my food experiences with you! I figured it is perfectly appropriate to dedicate my first food post to the amazing brunch I was invited to this past weekend at Mad Rex , a Post-Apocalyptic Themed Restaurant & Virtual Reality Lounge.

The restaurant’s unique décor caught our attention as soon as we walked in – with bold graffiti, artifacts, and weapon displays – the entire space was decorated like a shrine to apocalypse survivors. My girlfriends and I described the space as a “futuristic, augmented reality.”

The menu also went along with the theme, which was really cool! The new Brunch Menu offers a Quick Brunch for $20 featuring an entrée and dessert, or a Three-Course Meal for $30 featuring a starter, entrée, and dessert ($10 more for bottomless mimosas). I took some time to think about my meal choice, but I was sure I wanted the bottomless mimosas! The Juicer Mimosa Bar comes with brunch ticket, and features champagne with fresh juice. I also tried the "Apothic Mimosa" - apothic red wine and champagne with mixed berries, and my absolute favorite was the "Eden's Apple Mimsoa" - champagne and apple cider.

After long thought, I’m sure my server can vouch for that, I decided to go with the Three-Course Meal option because your girl was hungry; plus the first courses sounded very appetizing. I decided to go with the Crab Cake for First Course, Chicken & Waffles for an Entrée, and Tiramisu for Dessert. I was highly considering the Shrimp & Grits because that's something different from what I would normally order, but my friend ordered that as her entrée so I figured I'd try hers- that's what friends are for ,right?

There was not a single thing that I did not enjoy! I loved my crab cake, and especially loved the mango jalapeño chutney sauce on the side that brought out the taste even more. Now it's hard to go wrong with crispy chicken and waffles, but they were even better than I was hoping. The chicken was extra crispy and the belgian waffles were nice and fluffy; the siracha maple syrup made the dish differ from your typical waffles and syrup, but in a good way. I'll be honest, I had to force myself to take a few forkfuls of my Tiramisu, because I was stuffed, but that was delicious also - wish I would have had more room for it, but I didn't want to put my mimosas to rest... oops! Two of my friends chose the S'mores Margarita for dessert; they said it was refreshing and tasty, but stronger than they expected (includes Tequila, Godiva Chocolate liquor, triple sec, Creme de Coco, hazelnut liquor, with a toasted marshmallow). So one was just enough, lol.

To conclude, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Not only was every part of our meal excellent, but the vibes and entertainment were also great. You can't go wrong with a restaurant that can keep you entertained and provide good food/drinks. We all said that we would go back! If you have a free Saturday or Sunday in the city, I definitely recommend checking out Mad Rex in Fishtown, Philadelphia. Thanks for having me!

New n Improved Way of Brushing my Teeth ft. Smile Brilliant

Hey friends!

If you follow my blog posts, you most likely remember my collaboration around this time last year with Smile Brilliant, where I created a blog post to share my amazing progress after using their whitening trays! Well... this time around I am collaborating again, and I have gotten a chance to to review another awesome product - CariPRO Electric toothbrush.

Although I make an effort to floss and brush at least twice a day, I will be honest - I do not put too much effort into my routine, and have never paid attention to the kind of toothbrush that I use. I have owned an electric toothbrush once, as a young kid, and I think it lasted about a month until it stopped working and I just threw it out. Since then, I used whatever I was given, which was usually a basic, colored toothbrush from my dentist office. This was until I gave Smile Brilliant's cariPRO Electric toothbrush a try. After using this toothbrush daily, I realized what I've been missing.

I was hesitant at first because I didn't want anything that would make my routine much longer or be difficult to put together and work. Thankfully, when I unpackaged my toothbrush, there were three basic parts that were super easy to assemble, even without reading directions. I was also amazed at how lightweight everything is - making it easy to transport and pack with me.

WHAT DOES IT COME WITH?

Inside the package was 3 parts: cariPRO Ultrasonic toothbrush, 2 replacement heads with built-in tongue scrapers, 1 charging dock.

FINAL REVIEW

I gave myself about a week to test it out, but needless to say I was in love after day 1! My favorite part about the toothbrush is that there are different settings to use: Clean, White, Massage, Gum Care, and Sensitive. In the past I've had problems with my gums so I LOVE that I can take extra care of them now. If I had to choose, I'd say my favorite settings are gum care and sensitive All of the settings are still super cool to me in the way that they all move different ways - you'll have to see for yourself to know what I'm talking about.

Even better- the tooth brush has a automatic timer, which lets you know when to move the bristles to another part of your mouth. Talk about a clean mouth and a white smile! This toothbrush most definitely helps me pay closer attention to the care I give my teeth/mouth, and I've also noticed a difference in the overall feel of my teeth afterwards, as well as my teeth whiteness after about a week or so.

Dear 2017... short reflection of lessons learned in the last 365 days

Dear 2017,

There was good. There was bad. There were ups. There were downs; and as always there were many lessons learned. Originally I was all ready to plan a cute outfit, put some bold lipstick on and have a fun "2018" photoshoot to start out the new year with some fun, fresh content. However, after getting home from a day of work and returning from my daily visit with a loved one who is dying of stage four cancer, my heart decided otherwise.

As someone with aspirations of becoming more "known" in the social media world and collaborating with more brands, I think it is essential to continue to share what is REAL. Life is not always butterflies and rainbows, and I have learned that more than ever in 2017.

As I sit and reflect on positives, negatives, and lessons learned in this past year. I decided to share a few that I know will stick with me and just may help you...

1. Be True To Yourself (Do you, boo boo)

There were so many obstacles, decisions, plans that came my way, and it was this year that I realized these decisions are my decisions, and are going to affect ME. I learned to stop doing what people want me to do, or making the decisions I think people want me to make, but instead to start doing things for myself. This meant distancing myself from certain individuals, surrounding myself even more with certain groups and individuals, opening my mind to different ideas, saying "no" to plans I did not feel like being a part of... all because I was being true to myself and doing what I wanted to do.

2. Don't Lose Focus (Keep ya eye on the prize)

This was extremely difficult, and I can't say I did as good as I wanted to... but I learned how important it is not to lose focus of my goal(s). Everyone has a dream. Whether it is or is not what you are doing now, we all have life goals for ourselves. While I am working full-time and trying to financially create a future for myself, I have other passions and goals that I am nowhere near reaching. It's very common to have a 9-5 that does not directly relate to what we truly want to be doing, or dreamed of doing. So in realizing this, I believe my passions and goals should be a side hustle that I work just as hard at. There were some weeks I was tired, or some weeks I just didn't feel like coming home and working on social media content, but those were also the weeks that I lost followers, lost ideas, and lost sight of what I want for myself down the line. The minute we lose focus of our passions and end goal, the farther away our goals will seem.

3. Work hard Play hard (Treat YO'self!)

Like many other recent college grads, each month there is the unavoidable and hefty student loan payments, car payments, and tons of other bills that I do not even want to think about so therefore am not going to type... and let's face it sometimes we just need a day to feel like the Queens/Kings we are! This past year, I learned it is ok, in fact is imperative, to take time each month to just treat myself. So many of us work so hard and forget to take the time to give ourselves a pat on the back. Some days it is okay to eat what we want, grab a nice bottle of wine, get our nails done, hair done, everything did :) just kidding! But seriously if you take at least one "me day" each month and just focus on doing a few things that make you happy, it goes a long way! I have watched loved ones suffer with mental illness this year, and am sadly watching a loved one slowly die... these instances are heartbreaking, but they have also taught me how important it is to make yourself happy, live with no regrets, and do the things you love while you can because you truly never know what day will be your last.

As I reached the end of my third lesson, my boyfriend Facetimed me and wanted to see what I had written. When he saw all of the text on the screen, he commented "Sheesh! You wrote all of that? What if no one reads it?" It made me laugh because in writing this, the last thing I actually thought or cared about was how many readers this post will have. I blog and post because I love to. I write because it allows me to reflect and feel at ease. Whether it's one or one thousand readers, I share these experiences and feelings because I know there is someone out there that can relate.

So 2017, thanks for the lessons learned. And to 2018, I'm ready for ya!
